A guide to finding the right Photographer

Or Cinematographer for YOUR wedding day.

Introduction

One of the most challenging part of the wedding planning besides finding the right dress and booking the venue that you want for your wedding day is finding the right photographer for you. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands, of skilled and talented ones out there to choose from. This article may take a few minutes to read, but our goal is to save you hours or days of your time so you can use it for other tasks, like enjoying the engaged life.

The first question to ask.

Although many couples believe that searching for the right vendor for them means starting by looking at every single website, Instagram profile, and Pinterest posts they see, this usually leads into a big list of random links and confusing bookmarks. The first question you should ask yourself is “Who am I, and what do I want to get out of my photos?” The answer usually lies in between ‘I want great photos’ and ‘I want memorable photos.’ The former can be considered a budget conscious couple while the latter is a value conscious couple. Well ‘that doesn’t even make sense’ you may say, but let me break it down.

The budget conscious couple typically will have an easier time finding and deciding  a photographer because they already have a set criteria that yanks out pages of vendors off of a list just by easily filtering one aspect—price. By narrowing down to a set of photographers within a certain price range in your budget, you can skip through the all the hassle and quickly move on to checking their work, asking for pricing and availability, and signing the contract and cross that of the to do list.

The value conscious couple however demands a bit more of personalization from their photographers. Yes, they also do have a budget in mind, but often times it is not fully set in stone and they will have more wiggle room if it means getting better service and experience. I want lots of candidly taken shots, I want lots of posed photos,

Keep in mind that starting prices are mostly advertised to get you into the door. Expect the lowest price to be the bare minimum that a photographer can offer, so have them explain the scope of the services and decide if that is best for you.

Your wedding day is a very personal event that will becherish forever, and like your guest, finding the right people to celebrate it with you and document day is of utmost importance. Only hire someone that you’re definitely comfortable with and feel that you can trust, as it will always show in your photos if you are really having a good time or not. After all, they will be the ones who’ll be with you from the first consultation meeting, throughout the entire wedding day, and even weeks after the wedding. You can keep the relationship and hire them in the future when you have kids.
